Coffee vs Tea Spa: Which is Better for Your Skin Type?

At Highs Beauty, we craft treatments around two ancient ingredients: coffee and tea. Both are powerful, both are natural, both have centuries of ritual behind them. But they work very differently on your skin.

Here's how to choose — or how to combine them for the best of both worlds.

The Quick Answer

If you want... Choose...
Energizing, exfoliating, collagen-boosting Coffee Spa
Calming, hydrating, anti-inflammatory Tea Spa
Both Alternate, or use both in one routine
For oily or acne-prone skin Coffee Spa (start)
For dry or sensitive skin Tea Spa (start)
For mature skin Both — coffee AM, tea PM

What Coffee Spa Does

Coffee is active, energizing, and stimulating. Its primary compounds are:

  • Caffeine — vasoconstrictor, reduces puffiness
  • Chlorogenic acid — antioxidant, anti-aging
  • Polyphenols — anti-inflammatory, collagen-protecting
  • Natural acids — gentle exfoliation, brightening

When you use our Café Mocha 5-Step System, you're getting all of these in a single treatment. The result is skin that looks firmer, brighter, and more awake.

Best for:

  • Morning routines (the caffeine will wake you up too)
  • Body and feet (where you want exfoliation)
  • Oily or acne-prone skin
  • Pre-event prep (great for photos)

Not ideal for:

  • Extremely sensitive skin (start with the tea line)
  • Late-night use (it can be stimulating)
  • Rosacea or severe eczema (check with a dermatologist)

What Tea Spa Does

Tea is calming, soothing, and restorative. Different teas have different powers:

  • Matcha (green tea) — concentrated antioxidants, anti-aging
  • Osmanthus (yellow tea) — brightening, calming, fermentation-derived
  • White tea — gentle, antioxidant-rich
  • Black tea — astringent, toning

Our Tea Spa Collection uses matcha and osmanthus — both packed with antioxidants but in a gentler formulation than coffee.

Best for:

  • Evening routines (the calming compounds help you relax)
  • Face and neck (where you want hydration, not exfoliation)
  • Dry, sensitive, or mature skin
  • After sun exposure (the anti-inflammatory compounds help)

Not ideal for:

  • Oily skin that's prone to congestion (not enough exfoliation)
  • People who want immediate visible results (tea is more long-term)

The Skin Type Cheat Sheet

Oily Skin

Start with Coffee — the gentle exfoliation and astringent properties help control oil. Use 2-3 times a week. Add Tea for hydration on other days.

Dry Skin

Start with Tea — the hydrating, calming compounds restore moisture. Use daily. Add Coffee once a week for gentle exfoliation.

Sensitive Skin

Tea only — start with our Flora Tea Spa Collection (osmanthus-based, the gentlest in our line). Once your skin is comfortable, you can cautiously introduce a Coffee product once a week.

Mature Skin

Both, but strategically. Use coffee in the morning for its antioxidant and collagen-supporting compounds. Use tea at night for hydration and restoration. The combination gives you the benefits of both without overwhelming the skin.

Acne-Prone Skin

Coffee, carefully. The anti-inflammatory and exfoliating compounds can help, but be careful not to over-exfoliate. Use once a week, max. Avoid the face area unless you've confirmed your skin tolerates it.

The Daily Combination

For most people, the best approach is:

Morning: Coffee-influenced product (firming, energizing)
Evening: Tea-influenced product (calming, hydrating)

Try our Coffee Body Lotion in the morning and apply our Flora Tea Serum before bed. This combination works for most skin types out of the box.

Why We Make Both

We started Highs Beauty with coffee because the science is undeniable — caffeine, antioxidants, and natural exfoliation all in one bean. But as we grew, we kept hearing the same thing from customers: "I love the coffee, but my skin needs something gentler sometimes."

That's why we created the Tea Spa Collection. It's the same luxurious, ritual-driven experience — but with the soothing, restorative properties of matcha and osmanthus.

You don't have to choose. They're better together.
